Als ich im Herbst 2017 die verheerenden Folgen der Waldbrände in Portugal recherchierte, stieß ich unerwartet auf ein kleines Tal am Atlantik, inmitten der verbrannten Wälder von Leiria / Marinha Grande. Ein Ort alter Schönheit, wild und urwüchsig, eingekesselt von Quadratkilometern schwarzer Zerstörung. 2021 kehrte ich zum fotografieren zurück. Die Realität der Feuer in Europa und Welt war unaufhaltbar weiter fortgeschritten. 2022 erlebt Portugal den heißesten Sommer mit Temperaturen von über 45°C und wieder brennen die Wälder.

In KLEINOD geht es um Orte und Dinge, die man leicht übersieht. Es geht um den Moment, das Flüchtige, die Magie des Augenblicks. Dem Fluss von Energie folgend, dem endlosen Spiel von Licht und Wetter, Wind und Stille, dem fortwährten Wandel.

In the fall of 2017, while researching the devastating aftermath of the forest fires in Portugal, I unexpectedly came across a small valley on the Atlantic Ocean, in the middle of the burned forests of Leiria / Marinha Grande. A place of ancient beauty, wild and pristine, encircled by square kilometers of black destruction. In 2021 I returned to photograph. The reality of the fires in Europe and the world had progressed unstoppably. In 2022, Portugal is experiencing the hottest summer on record, with temperatures exceeding 45°C, and again the forests are burning.

KLEINOD /beauty spot is about places and things that are easily overlooked. It’s about the moment, the fleeting, the magic of the moment. Following the flow of energy, the endless play of light and weather, wind and silence, the perpetual change.
