In the fall of 2017, while researching the devastating aftermath of the wild fires in Portugal, I unexpectedly came across a tiny valley on the Atlantic Ocean amidst the burned forests of Leiria / Marinha Grande. A tiny patch of ancient beauty encircled by square kilometers of black destruction. In 2021, I returned to photograph. By then, the reality of fires in Europe and global warming was a very different one. And what is the state of the world today?
